This year’s special exhibition will open on Saturday 9th May until 29th November and we’ve lined up some great films and talks alongside – though our events might be just a little bit more than these 6d, 1/- and 2/6 tickets from The Palladium in Midsomer Norton. (That’s 2.5p, 5p and 12.5p for those of you too young to remember the old money!).
We were honoured to meet and interview members of the Steel family who ran The Palladium for many years until it closed in 1993, and they have kindly loaned us some memorabilia, including the box of tickets, which will be on display in the exhibition.
Coming Soon!
Three special film screenings have been scheduled so far, arranged in partnership with our friends at the Little Theatre Cinema and Off The Wall Films – more to come, but put these dates in your diaries now:
Sunday 17 May (time tbc) Cinema Paradiso at Little Theatre Cinema – everyone’s favourite feel-good dose of cinema nostalgia (and incidentally the last film ever shown in Midsomer Norton)
Sunday 6 September (time tbc) Rock Around the Clock at Widcombe Social Club – celebrating the 70th anniversary of this legendary film which had teenagers jiving in the aisles at The Forum in the first week of September 1956 (and we’re planning a jive dance class too!)
Sunday 8 November (time tbc) Battle of the Somme 1916 at Little Theatre Cinema – marking 110 years since the Battle of the Somme, a chance to see this extraordinary film, mainly shot on location in northern France and Flanders
Please note, tickets for these films are not yet on sale. They will be available through the respective venues/promoters nearer the time. Watch this space and our social media for updates and announcements of more films and talks.
